Sundance Channel is 'Restless' with new miniseries

NEW YORK — Sundance Channel, best known for its documentaries and other unscripted fare, is about to present a deliciously suspenseful spy thriller that signals a new initiative for the network: more drama.
"Restless," a two-part miniseries that begins Friday at 9 p.m., would be an attention-getter if for no other reason than its blue-chip cast. Here's delectable Hayley Atwell ("Cassandra's Dream," ''Captain America: The First Avenger") along with veteran thesps Michael Gambon and Charlotte Rampling, as well as Rufus Sewell ("The Pillars of the Earth"), who's the very definition of a dashing leading man. Plus Michelle Dockery, whose return next month as Lady Mary Crawley is eagerly awaited by all "Downton Abbey" fans.
But there is more to recommend "Restless" than its fine troupe of actors.
Based on the best-selling novel by William Boyd, it weaves a double strand of intrigue set at the eve of World War II and in the 1970s.
It's a cloak-and-dagger saga chock-full of suspicion.
"Never trust anyone, ever. Especially not me," cautions Lucas Romer (Sewell), a shadowy and seductive British agent who has recruited young Eva Delectorskaya (Atwell) for his mission to draw the United States into the war effort by Britain.
"I would never trust you," Eva replies.
"You learn quickly," says Romer.
The film begins in 1976 with Ruth Gilmartin (Dockery), a defiantly independent single mother and budding academic who is shocked to learn that the mother she has always known as Sally Gilmartin is actually former spy Eva Delectorskaya.
After decades living quietly under the radar, Eva (Rampling) fears that her cover has recently been blown and that her life is in danger. She turns to her daughter to help flush out the elusive Romer and reassure her safety.
The story, dense and brooding, intercuts between its dual time frames. Young Eva, an unsuspecting Russian emigre in prewar Paris, transforms herself into a skilled secret agent with a new identity, a perilous objective (and, by the way, a steamy romance).
* if you Google "steamy romance movies", you get movies such as Eyes Wide Shut, Wild Orchid, etc. Boobs and pubes are part of the package when you threw around the phrase "steamy romance". So I will personally hold Mr. Moore accountable if I don't see Hayley tits (with clear view of her nipples) this Friday night.
A generation later, Ruth is being drafted to explore her mother's past while stewing over existential doubts: Can you ever really know anyone, even your own mother, when the all-too-routine human tendency is to seek safe refuge behind secrecy and falsehoods?
"Don't look so perplexed, my love," Eva tells her daughter. "We all have secrets. Everyone. No one knows even half the truth about anybody else, not even when we're very close."
"Restless" has a restless, noir murkiness about it. But even with the thrumming air of paranoia that powers it, the film boasts a corresponding stylishness, whether it's Ruth's circa-'70s bell bottoms or young Eva's 1940s cosmopolitan chic.
And even when conferring on abstruse details about their top-secret mission, Eva and suave, pencil-mustached Romer sizzle in each other's company.
"Restless" spins a smart, rich yarn and, even if its conclusion is a bit labored (by then, there are many strands to untangle), the film delivers a satisfying twist.
Meanwhile, it represents a new thrust for Sundance: more scripted productions.
This, of course, raises the question of how this sort of programming will set it apart from that offered by such networks as PBS, HBO or Sundance's sister network AMC?
"I feel like there is a distinct space that Sundance Channel can carve out within the growing trend of tremendous scripted drama we're seeing," declares Sundance general manager Sarah Barnett.
Two years ago, Sundance aired the Golden Globe-winning miniseries "Carlos," which starred Edgar Ramirez in an Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated performance as notorious terrorist Carlos the Jackal. Last year, it presented "Appropriate Adult," a riveting miniseries starring Emily Watson and Dominic West.
Coming this spring, the channel will debut "Rectify," its first wholly owned scripted drama series. From Gran Via (the producers of AMC's "Breaking Bad"), "Rectify" is a six-part series about a man who has served 19 years on Georgia's Death Row before DNA evidence calls his conviction into question.
Also in 2013, Sundance will premiere "Top of the Lake," a seven-part series written and directed by Academy Award-winning Jane Campion and starring Holly Hunter and Elisabeth Moss ("Mad Men"). Set in the remote mountains of New Zealand, the story follows an investigation into the disappearance of a 12-year-old girl, five months pregnant, who was last seen standing chest deep in a frozen lake.
Coming after that:
— "Valentines" visits a high-powered New York attorney and his three attractive daughters in their luxury homes, tony social circles and stormy relationships.
— With producers including Stanley Tucci and Steve Buscemi, "Behind the Sun" is billed as a coming-of-age tale set in the surfer world of Malibu, Calif., where a teenage boy learns he has a rare allergy to the sun.
— "The Descendants" revolves around a sheriff policing two clashing communities: the small town where he grew up and the neighboring Ramapo Mountains, home of the Ramapo Mountain Indians.
— "T'' tells the story of a transgender male who has recently undergone gender reassignment surgery and is beginning life as a man. It is produced by Ira Glass and Alisa Shipp ("This American Life").
— "Death in the Modern Age" tracks a down-on-his-luck suburbanite who fakes his own death so he can start life anew.
"We want to make shows that are smart, layered, morally ambiguous and complex," says Barnett, summing up her channel's scripted initiative. "I think we can tell stories of new worlds well on our channel. But we can also look at worlds you know, in a fresh way."

Antony is a Starr in the making
By Hannah Tattersall
Kiwi actor Antony Starr has landed his first American TV role on a new show by the producer of True Blood.
Charlotte, North Carolina is a long way from Auckland, but it's where Kiwi actor Antony Starr now spends much of his time, working on the set of new television series Banshee.
On this particular day Starr is kicking and punching his way around a small wooden table in a room with his co-star, Danish actor Ulrich Thomsen and their stunt doubles. They are rehearsing a scene in a slaughterhouse and the table is standing in for a large electric meat saw, the type capable of slicing sandwich meat - or in this case, facial parts.
This kind of role is new for Starr and one he admits has been physically demanding. Though he'd had some experience with martial arts, he says he was unprepared for Banshee "boot camp" and the complicated choreography of fight scenes.
"I've always been relatively active but these are huge fight scenes," he says. "It's far and away the most physical job I've ever had - and also the most physical thing I've ever done."
True Blood fans will be familiar with producer Alan Ball's brand of sexy television with swarthy leads. So when it came to casting his latest creation, Starr - with with his tanned skin, muscular physique and puppy dog eyes - was a natural fit for the new HBO/Cinemax drama which is on New Zealand screens next month.
Initially, however, Starr was passed over by Ball and his team because they thought he looked too young. It was only after the show's casting director convinced them to take a second look at his audition tape - filmed in a living room in Sydney - that Starr was flown to the US for a screen test.
"The minute we got into a room with him it was done," series writer Jonathan Tropper says. "And we loved the fact that nobody in America has really seen him in anything before."
At home of course, Starr will forever be remembered as playing disparate twins Van and Jethro West on long-running series Outrageous Fortune. And he's had some substantial Australian screen roles since.
Banshee will at the very least get him noticed in America. Starr plays convicted criminal Lucas Hood, who has spent the past 15 years in jail. Upon his release, and eager to make up for lost time, he goes in search of his past love (played by Yugoslavia-born Ivana Milicevic). He witnesses a bar brawl during which the sheriff of Banshee, a small Amish town in Pennsylvania, is killed, and subsequently takes on that man's identity.
It's an action-packed character drama, a story about haunted pasts and a town of secrets. The whole series is filmed on a handheld camera, which adds urgency and tension to the drama. But at the centre of the violence lies a love story.
"[Hood] is a very tormented soul, someone who's been abused and had the rough end of the stick pretty much his whole life," Starr explains. "He has a bit of a chip on his shoulder with the world and is out to get what's his. But, like everyone, he also wants to belong to a family or a community."
Starr grew up on the North Shore and got his first acting break in Shortland Street. Roles in Xena: Warrior Princess and a swathe of telemovies followed before Outrageous Fortune.
"With Outrageous Fortune I was world famous ... in New Zealand," he says ironically.
"New Zealand is small: you don't become successful; you become over-exposed."
Even so, when that show ended in 2010 after a six-year run, the actor struggled to find work. "I finished that show and I couldn't get a job for a year, so I spent that year going to Australia and coming to LA to establish myself," he says.
His efforts paid off. This year Starr appeared in Australian feature film Wish You Were Here and had a starring role in Sydney-based television drama Tricky Business.
Then of course, came Banshee, his first taste of the American market. He says the experience has been gratifying, particularly as the cast is very international, meaning everyone's in the same boat.
"It's very similar: work is still work, but the scale is different. Everything's a bit bigger, there's more money thrown around, but work is still work. I work with a great bunch of people. You are here primarily to work, but everyone is away from home so it would be kind of horrible if everyone were jerks," he says. "We're in Charlotte, not in LA or New York, so it's been nice to make some new friends and have a social element as well."
Ball is very trusting. "He's the overlord who's keeping an eye on everything that's done. He has given all the new talent and the writers a lot of space to find their voice and creativity.
"I've got no idea [what they saw in me]," he says of the audition. "I haven't really thought about that. I said thank you very much and have been head down and focused on my part of the job. It hasn't involved me sitting down and wondering why."
He contemplates this for a moment and then says: "I think that's why overseas actors do well [here]. We don't have that sense of entitlement.
"Some American actors see it as their birthright. We come over and see it as an opportunity and a gift."
Starr can't really predict what it could do for his career.
"There's not so much work going around that people can sit and be picky and choosy," he says.
"Obviously there are some things you'd rather do than others but I'm up for anything."

Why HBO's Sue Naegle Didn't Lose Sleep Over 'Homeland's' Big Wins
The exec behind "Boardwalk Empire" and "Game of Thrones" tells THR it's hard not to root for Showtime: "I welcome the competition."
This story first appeared in the Dec. 14 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. If there's a word to define the woman who introduced millions to Lena Dunham's naked body, it's far from the one Sue Naegle uses to describe herself on a recent sunny morning inside SoHo House.
"I'm actually totally the prude of my family," laughs the blond exec, dressed casual-cool in slim pants, a black blazer and jewel-tone-blue blouse (she opts to wear such labels as J.Crew and Rag and Bone). "My mom actually likes Girls a lot," says Naegle, sipping green tea. "It's funny to her that the show was so controversial in how it depicted sex and nudity. But I do think the honesty is nothing we've ever seen before, and the ability to talk about the awkwardness is revolutionary. I really envy Lena's level of self-possession at such a young age."
Since the former UTA agent took her post as HBO's entertainment president in 2008, the premium cable network can still -- despite battling its toughest glut of cable competition in its 40-year history from such networks as AMC, FX and Showtime -- boast the highest number of critically acclaimed comedies and dramas on television. Under Naegle's leadership, HBO again earned the most Emmy nominations of any outlet (81), including two for best drama (Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones) and a record half of the total potential nominees for comedy (Girls, Veep and Curb Your Enthusiasm). (The network also had high hopes for its Dustin Hoffman horse-racing drama, Luck, but the series was canceled in March amid the deaths of horses featured on the show, a subject about which the network and Naegle decline to comment further.)
While Emmy's top prizes went to Showtime's Homeland and ABC's Modern Family, Naegle, 43, remains undeterred in perpetuating HBO as the medium's most fervent purveyor of edgy material. Currently the most powerful woman in premium cable (and most other scripted cable outlets, including AMC and FX, who have male entertainment chiefs), Naegle says her proudest accomplishments on this front are Thrones and Girls, the latter of whose cultural buzz was underscored when its three-time Emmy-nominated star Dunham recently netted a $3.5 million book deal with Random House.
"The best part of my job is that we can be making shows like Boardwalk, Thrones, True Blood but also female-centered comedies like Enlightened, Veep and Girls," says Naegle of her current slate. "It's my primary responsibility to protect the talent and make sure their voices stay distinct. I've always wanted to be close to the content. I mean, I actually still read for pleasure!"
The seeds of Naegle's love for television were planted during her childhood in Rockaway, N.J., when her parents (her father was a high school coach, her mother a medical-market researcher) allowed their two daughters the most luxurious of habits.
"They weren't restrictive about what we watched at all -- Dallas, Falcon Crest, Saturday Night Live and a lot of comedies," she recalls. "It's funny. … I'm much tougher on my kids. They aren't allowed to watch TV at all during the week," she says with a laugh about life at home with her three adopted daughters, ages 10, 8, 3, with her husband, writer-comedian Dana Gould. (They met at comedian Kathy Griffin's annual Christmas party in 1996.)
Naegle studied comparative literature and communications at Indiana University, but the tug of showbiz pulled her to New York, where she interned at Orion Classics (now Sony Pictures Classics). Fearing financial insecurity in New York, she moved to Los Angeles, and, though void of "any connections" in Hollywood, she applied for and scored a job in the UTA mailroom in 1992 on the advice of a family friend.
"It was the best way to learn the business; it's Darwinian yet also a meritocracy," says Naegle, who at age 22 spent only two months shuffling packages before being chosen to work with agent Nancy Jones (now at CAA). By 24, Naegle had her own clients and had fallen in love with what she calls the "nobility" of introducing worthy talent to the masses.
One of the many benefactors of Naegle's "fringy" taste was filmmaker and Enlightened creator/star Mike White, who became her client in 2004 after a tough entree into TV. "My ABC show, Pasadena, had been canceled, and I felt unprotected in the world of agents, kind of like a junkyard dog," recalls White. "Sue was aggressive, but very helpful, in talking me through other options at places like HBO that were better for my style of work."
After seeing such star clients as screenwriters Alan Ball and Charlie Kaufman win Oscars (American Beauty and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, respectively) and dipping her toe, successfully, into the programming arena (she was instrumental in getting Ball's series Six Feet Under on the air), Naegle took the opportunity to succeed HBO's long-serving entertainment guru Carolyn Strauss and help guide the network -- then on the cusp of its flagship drama, The Sopranos, leaving the air -- into its next era.
"I was totally bereft when she left us," admits UTA co-founder and board member Peter Benedek. "She was a wonderful agent and took it very personally when buyers didn't get how amazing her clients were," he says, adding that Naegle first learned of his client, Dunham, after he suggested she watch Dunham's hit indie film Tiny Furniture. "She immediately asked, 'OK, how can I get into business with this girl?' There would be no Girls without Sue." (There'd also likely be no Thrones, of which Naegle was an early champion, despite the dense content of George R. R. Martin's fantasy novels.)
"It's really exciting to see someone like her in the driver's seat at HBO," adds White. "Someone who cares about the content above all else."
Naegle admits her passion makes the gig "a hard job to turn off," and spends all her free time taking in as much reading as her eyes can handle. "[HBO co-president] Richard Plepler and I are both insomniacs, and sometimes he e-mails me late at night," says Naegle. "One time I was like, 'What are you doing up?!' and he wrote back, 'I can't sleep, there's just so much to know.' I thought: 'That is exactly right. But the hunger for knowing is what excites me. I get to geek out about editing, be on set, give notes to writers -- I love it all."
And did she, ahem, lose any sleep when rival network Showtime scored the coveted best drama series win at the Emmys? "Let's not get crazy -- I wasn't raising a glass when Homeland won," she says, laughing. "But it's hard not to root for them. I've known [Showtime Entertainment president] David Nevins for 20 years.
But our networks have different personalities. That's why it's such an exciting time to be doing what we're doing."
She pauses, smiles and adds with no reservation, "I welcome the competition."

The 89 gorgeous glamour girls competing in the 2012 Miss Universe Pageant here are thrilled with their new provocative pinup portraits, and in advance of this weekend’s release, they are defending and deflecting any controversy.
2012 Miss Lithuania Greta Mikalauskyte |
We’ll post more shots when his editing is completed. Fadil is no stranger to controversy over his edgy and provocative photos; he was at the center of a Miss USA firestorm here three years ago when critics lambasted his photos as too sexy.
“The new photos are sexy, classy and tasteful. It’s hotter and more elegant than you’ll see in the Victoria’s Secrets catalog. The photos are all themed to lingerie. We were nervous, but he made it very easy and comfortable” several contestants told me Tuesday night at Michael Boychuck’s salon Color in Caesars Palace.
While surrounded by Miss Paraguay (Egni Eckert, 25), Miss India (Shilpa Singh, 23), Miss South Africa (Melinda Bam, 23), Miss Croatia (Elizabeta Burg, 19) and Miss Norway (Sara Nicole Andersen, 20), Miss Universe and Miss USA chief Paula Shugart told me: “We have an amazing group of girls from all over the world for the pageant.
“We asked every one of them if they were comfortable with the photos and if they would get any kind of negative reaction back in their homelands. Every one was completely OK with the shoots and very proud of the results. They loved their glamour looks. These are beautiful, healthy, smart, very fit young women -- and you’re seeing them exactly the way they’d be in swimwear at the beach.”
Miss India and Miss South Africa said: “For every one of us, it’s our very first visit to Las Vegas. It’s amazing. We’ve all been tweeting home but haven’t had any time for blogging yet because we’ve been nonstop busy since we arrived here.” Miss Paraguay added, “I’ve fallen in love with Las Vegas already and want to stay here after the pageant is over.”
Contributing photographer Tom Donoghue was on duty for the Miss Universe contestants and the Miss Nevada hopefuls at Color; our thanks for his incredible photo gallery.
Miss Universe will be a global broadcast to 100 countries on NBC and Telemundo from Planet Hollywood on Wednesday, Dec. 19. Train will provide a three-song set for the swimsuit competition, and Bravo’s Andy Cohen and E! Entertainment’s Giuliana Rancic are co-hosts. One female Olympic gold medalist is tipped to be one of the judges, with the full list to be announced this weekend.
Reigning Miss Universe Leila Lopes, who will crown her successor, led five Nevada hopefuls to Color to meet reigning Miss Nevada USA Jade Kelsall, Miss Nevada Teen USA Katie Eklund and Nevada USA director Shanna Moakler. Michael and hair guru best friend Laurent Dufourg of Prive Salons in L.A. presented a workshop on hair, makeup and coloring. All of them gave pageant and beauty tips to 50 hopefuls in the casting call for the Jan. 27 state pageant at UNLV’s Ham Hall.
Shanna told me: “We will have 30 Miss Nevada USA contestants and 36 Miss Teen Nevada USA contestants. The Strip, Las Vegas itself, Henderson and Reno will be well represented, but my longtime goal is to widen it to other cities through Nevada so we will eventually have 100 Miss Nevada contestants and 80 Miss Teen contestants.
“I am super proud of the new girls we have lined up already. Tonight, they learned a lot about glamour from the best experts. They grilled Miss Universe, who shared a lot of valuable experience and hints. Leila told them how to calm their nerves and have fun in a pageant to show confidence.”
Thursday morning, 25 of the Miss Universe contestants will join Leila and the sexy showgirls of “Jubilee!” at Bally’s for a behind-the-scenes tour and a dance lineup onstage. Then at 5 p.m. Thursday, all 89 contestants gather together for the first time to kick off the 61st competition with a fashion runway presentation at Planet Hollywood’s mezzanine that is open to the public.
Michael had the last word: “I see a lot of beautiful women in my salons, but I think this was the most I’ve ever had at one time. We owned the words ‘gorgeous hair and makeup’ tonight. No other salon in the world can claim they had so many pageant princesses all at once. I wonder if that’s a new category for the Guinness Book of Records?!”
* It's baby steps at the moment but we're getting there. Lingerie shoot with see-through to nips are unfortunately photoshopped out. Before end of this decade I hope to see topless segment where contestants parade around wearing only panties. Girls from conservative countries can sit out if they wish. The organizers can sell the special segment either to Playboy or Hustler in a lucrative sponsorship deal. It always angers me why the organizers are pretty anal about the numbers of photographers they allowed to work with the models. That's is so archaic nonsense. Many of the girls desire a career in modeling. Most of the recognized photographers and loaded GWC are well-connected. The fact is majority of beauty queens want to stay back a little while in US and explore their career options. After all this is the land of plenty and want. They're at the age where taking risks is far more common.

The Bare and the Bold: The 10 Best Movie Sex Scenes in 2012
By Hollywood.com Staff
Birds do it, bees do it, even Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones do it. In fact, it seemed like just about every A-list star was doing it on the big screen this year, thanks to sex scenes featuring the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Michelle Williams, Daniel Craig, Marion Cotillard, Zac Efron, and Robert Pattinson. (Not all at once, mind you, although that would make for one heck of a must-see movie.)
But while many of Hollywood's biggest names shed their inhibitions — and, yes, oftentimes their clothes — this year for the sake of their art on film, it was rarely gratuitous or horrifying. (Okay, the sex scene in Cosmopolis was a little bit horrifying.) In honor of their bold and beautiful moves, we've ranked the very best sex scenes in movies in 2012. Hey, it's a tough job, but somebody's gotta — you know — do it. As to be expected, some of these photos are NSFW.
Wanderlust: Jennifer Aniston living at a free-love commune with Paul Rudd? The premise of this comedy sells itself. Unfortunately, it didn't sell too many tickets at the box office as it earned a disappointing $21 million. Still, that doesn't mean Aniston's sex scenes didn't get tongues wagging, particularly when she wound up in bed with Malin Akerman, Lauren Ambrose, and Kerri Kenney. Not to mention the hot on-screen chemistry of Aniston with her future fiance Justin Thoreaux.
Take This Waltz: Sure the coffee shop scene — in which Daniel (Luke Kirby) tells the married Margot (Michelle Williams) exactly what he'd do to her in bed in graphic, agonizing detail — is inarguably the most erotic part of Sarah Polley's indie drama, but the sex montage in which Daniel and Margot finally do get it on (sometimes, as we see, with a variety of different partners and positions) is still one of the best love scenes (plural) we saw all year.
Skyfall: The streamy (quite literally) scene between Daniel Craig and Bérénice Marlohe marks off a veritable checklist of sexy location scenarios: In the shower? Check. On a boat? Check. With Daniel Craig and/or Bérénice Marlohe ? CHECK, PLEASE.
The Sessions: The premise of the movie may sound clinical — a man with an iron lung (an Oscar-worthy John Hawkes) hires a professional sex surrogate (played by Helen Hunt) to help him lose his virginity — but the result is an emotional and yes, erotic, journey. After their many sessions of touching and talking, when they two finally consumate their relationship, it's worth the wait, in every sense of the word.
Rust and Bone: Like the violence in Jacques Audiard's haunting drama, the sex is just as unflinching and rooted in realism. After suffering a devastating injury that leaves her a double amputee, Stéphanie (Marion Cotillard) is faced with learning to adapt to an entirely new life, including her sex life. Her first time, post-accident is with the handsome, troubled drifter Ali (Matthias Schoenaerts). Like The Sessions, Rust and Bone doesn't shy away from or sugarcoat the sex lives of the disabled, making for two of the most honest, refreshing, and sexy sex scenes all year.
Hope Springs: One could argue for the tender love scene between the once-struggling, romance-challenged older married couple Kay and Arnold (Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones) is one of the best sex scenes from 2012. But let's be honest: it's when the esteemed three-time Oscar winner/greatest actress of all-time pulls an Alanis Morissette and goes down on TLJ in a theater. That's one way to get out of a sex rut.
Cosmopolis: Sorry, Twihards, but this one takes the cake for sex scenes with R-Pattz in 2012. The dreamboat hunk receives a prostate exam in a scene that doesn't actually involve sex (though there are some in this infinitely bizarre David Cronenberg flick, including an alluded-to one with the timelessly sexy Juliette Binoche) but it sure was memorable, wasn't it?
The Lucky One: Speaking of heartthrobs all grown up into bona fide grown-up sex symbols, Zac Efron in the soapy Nicholas Sparks drama ups the shower sex ante and takes the action outside with Taylor Schilling. Sure, it's too glossy and too well-orchestrated to be taken seriously and it doesn't have the same effect as the famous The Notebook scene, but as far as PG-13 love scenes went this year, this one actually got hearts racing. Plus, it was a way to enjoy Efron without having to endure any Paperboy ickiness.
For A Good Time Call: Hey, phone sex counts.
Honorable Mention: Titanic 3D: Yes, yes, we know the sex scene in Titanic technically constitutes as one of the best movie sex scenes in 1997, but you don't truly experience the sweaty, window-slamming sex between Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio's Rose and Jack until you've experienced it in 3D.

* Miss California 2012 Natalie Pack advice to aspiring models....
Want to Model? Here's your starting point...
August 8, 2012
I love all the questions I have been getting about how to begin your modeling careers! It makes me so happy to see so many girls chasing their dreams and goals!
The MOST IMPORTANT way to start is to find an agency that works for you, and here's how:
1. You must prepare an outfit and makeup for an OPEN CALL.
Open call's are certain time periods an agency holds in which aspiring models are able to walk into the agency, meet the agents, and potentially get signed on the spot. You will need to dress in a simple outfit. No crazy patterns, baggy clothing, or big jewelry please! This will only distract the agent from your beauty! I recommend just wearing a fitted, neutral colored tank top and jean shorts/pants. Remember, they want to see the shape of your body, so don't hide it with clothing. If you are 5'7'' or taller, they WILL ask you to walk (runway that is) so please come wearing heels that you know you can walk in very well! **Also bring a bikini!
Your makeup should be very natural. If you look fine without makeup, go in with just mascara. Literally, the less the better. These agents are professionals, so they'll imagine all different kind of looks for you. You just need to walk in with the blank canvas. With one of my previous agencies, I went in the day of the open call with no make-up and they transformed me that very same day. I went to the hair salon across the street to change my hair, got my eyebrows done, and they told me how to do my makeup! So don't worry about it, all they want to see is potential.
2. Be Photo Ready!
Bring 1 page with 4 photos on it: a serious headshot, a smiling headshot, 3/4 body shot, and a full length in a bikini shot. Very, very little makeup in the photos. Wear simple clothing, and black or solid colored basic bikini. Contact me at www.facebook.com/nataliepackphotography if you want me to get you photo ready!

3. State your stats.
On the back of the same page with the photos, write the following:
Name, age, height, bust size(inches), waist size(inches), hips size(inches), eye color, hair color, phone number
Ex. Natalie Pack, 23
5'11.5''
33-24-35
Eyes: Hazel
Hair: Lt. Brown
(310) ***-****
Please don't lie girls, because if they are interested in you, they will measure you there!

5. Good luck Ladies!!!
You are all beautiful inside and out, so even if the agency of your choice decides you're not right for them at this time, you can always try again next year! Go in confident, willing, excited, and most of all, HUMBLE!
If they offer you a contract:
Don't sign with the first agency you meet, YET! Go meet all the ones listed, and then decide. You never know who will be your best match until you have met all the different agents. Congrats!!!!
Some tips if you don't get signed:
If they tell you you're too commercial: You need to edge-up your look. Get a cool haircut, change your hair color, wear different clothes. Maybe dramatize your eyes with a little makeup.
If they say you're not right for them: Move on, for now. Try again next year. Sometimes it takes time for baby fat to leave your face defined...just give it time! Don't give up!
If they say they will contact you within 2 weeks: USUALLY this means they weren't interested, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't try again in the future. Sometimes they will return your call and ask you to come in again. It can really go either way, so keep your fingers crossed!
* After a turbulent past and posing for racy pics as a brunette, 23-years old California native put behind the rebellious streak and focuses laser-sharp on returning to her first love: modeling. Winning the beauty title was a bonus. Make sure to watch out for Natalie. She is all for artistic nudes and can't wait to take her clothes off when her reign comes to an end. More of Natalie here and here and here. She also worked with Dominic Petruzzi - Playboy contributor.

31-years old English rose and Tom Hardy's fiancée Charlotte Riley will be up for a sex scene with Andrew Scott in coming episode of ITV's The Town. Posted earlier Andrew's interview where he talks about getting nude for the particular scene. Let's hope this isn't exaggeration on part of the actor. British movie reviews and actors are prone to over the top fibbing when it comes to nude scenes. When did the Brits became prudes? Economy recession usually brings out the worst in people but it also sexually liberalize the population in desperate times looking to sex for escapism. Amazingly British movie industry seemed to be recession-proof. Don't ask me how. There are more productions in progress than it was for last couple of years and many are nearly completion with glut of releases scheduled for 2013. Financial cooperation with US-producers is one of the reasons for large number of Brit TV-series and movies coming your way.
