THEY'RE the filthy rich movie stars who land the lead roles, but these Hollywood heavyweights don't always rake in as much mulah as you might think.

Big names such as Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts and Will Smith often command more than $20 million for a film role, but sometimes, just sometimes they take a serious pay cut.
Here are nine actors who got totally gypped, as revealed by Yahoo!

1) Brad Pitt: $6,000 for Thelma and Louise
Pitt reportedly earned a whopping $30 million for Ocean's Eleven, but his iconic breakout film alongside Geena Davis at the age of 28 earned him just $6,000.

2) Ethan Hawke: Next to nothing for The Purge
Hawke starred in 2013 thriller The Purge for almost zero money upfront. "There were no perks," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "No trailer, no driver, no BS, just a great role, a great director." He did agree to an undisclosed percentage of the profits however.

4) Lindsay Lohan: $6,480 for The Canyons
Poor LiLo reportedly made just $6,480 for erotic thriller The Canyons, which tanked at the box office. It was also reported that this amount was even lower, with the starlet earning a mere $100 a day for a 23-day shoot.

5) Jim Carey: $0 for Yes Man
It seems this funnyman is also a savvy businessman. Carey took no money upfront for the 2008 comedy in exchange for 36.2 per cent of the profits. The movie then went on to earn $223 million, which resulted in one of his biggest paycheques.

6) George Clooney: $120,000 for Good Night, and Good Luck
Clooney is known to make between $10 million and $20 million per movie, but that doesn't mean he won't sacrifice a buck for a worthy project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he got $120,000 for writing, directing and starring in the 2005 drama, Good Night, and Good Luck.

7) Ryan Gosling: $1000 per week for Half Nelson
Two years after landing himself at the top of every woman's 'swoon list' for his role in The Notebook, Gosling did Half Nelson in 2006, and was only paid a measly $1000 per week.

8) Robert Pattinson: $2 million for Twilight
For a relatively unknown actor at the time, R-Patz got a pretty good deal with $2 million for the first Twilight instalment. By the time the saga ended in 2012 he had earned $12,500,000 upfront as well as 7 per cent of the gross per movie, according to TheRichest.com.

9) Bill Murray: $9000 for Rushmore
Bill Murray's role as businessman Herman Blume in Rushmore is arguably one of his most famous. Yet, the big-time actor was paid just $9,000 for the 1998 film. It did wonders for his career in other ways though, earning him a Golden Globe nomination and a slew of other awards.
