Bob Weinstein Says 'Sin City' TV Show and 10-Part 'The Mist' Miniseries In The Works
by
A recent New York Times article about the Weinstein brothers' expansion into TV highlighted their upcoming slated original and spinoff programing, revealing that a "Sin City" show was in the works, along with a miniseries based on "The Mist." Of the pair, "Sin City" seems like more of a no brainer (sex and violence, duh). Both Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are involved in the development of the show with plans for it to "quickly follow" the August 22, 2014 release of "Sin City: A Dame To Die For." And for Rodriguez it's another TV gig riffing on one of his movies, with "From Dusk 'Till Dawn" currently casting up over at El Rey.
Meanwhile, "The Mist" is a bit more surprising, especially considering it wasn't all that much of it on its initial release. That said, Stephen King is enjoying a small screen resurgence ("Under The Dome") and Frank Darabont found great results on TV with "The Walking Dead" (before he left/was ousted) with next month's "Mob City" already hotly buzzed. And Darabont is involved with this new, 10-part incarnation of "The Mist" too, so it'll be interesting to see what this expanded format will allow him to do with the storytelling.
Interesting stuff all around—a continuing vision of the future of television...where movie brands are extended further on TV (see Marvel's "Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D." and Netflix deal) where the risks are a bit more manageable.
