Tracy Spiridakos: On the next season of 'Episodes' . . .

Sneak peek: On the next season of 'Episodes' . . .guest starring Tracy Spiridakos

Things are going well for Matt LeBlanc. Just not the version of himself he plays on Showtime's Episodes, returning for a third, nine-episode season Jan. 12, Sundays at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT.

In a last-ditch effort to keep Pucks!, his (fictional) low-rated TV show on the air, his hockey-coach character has been marginalized. He can't get out of his contract to work on another project. He's sleeping with the blind wife of his network's president, "Merc" Lapidus (John Pankow), who's just been fired. And later, his dad (Alex Rocco) surfaces to cause trouble, leaking false stories to TMZ when Matt forgets to send a monthly check.

The action picks up the morning after last season's finale, in which infidelities were revealed as "Merc" accepted a "Man of the Year" award at a benefit dinner capped by fist fights. "We've been criticized the first two seasons for coming out of the gate slowly and letting the momentum build," LeBlanc says, so "this year we made a conscious effort to come out swinging."

The showbiz satire is an exaggeration of the foibles faced by producers David Crane (Friends) and Jeffrey Klarik (Mad About You), who write every episode. "All of them are on this sinking ship, asking 'How do we keep it afloat?' And if it does go down, 'what do we do next?'" Crane says.

"We've both been on shows that weren't working, and it's a very real experience of scrambling and panic and false optimism,'" says Klarik.

The panic extends to Merc, who — in the tradition of many ousted Hollywood execs — "becomes a producer and is back at the network he used to run, pitching shows he used to turn down," LeBlanc says, as his abused former minions try to exact revenge. There's a new boss to contend with. And Matt's co-star Morning Randolph (Mircea Monroe) is paid a visit by her sister Dawn (Revolution's Tracy Spiridakos), who proves merely the latest temptation for Matt. And the story's heroes, Sean (Stephen Mangan) and Beverly (Tamsin Greig), the married producers with their own infidelities, mull their own future.

The usually confident Matt is in a somber state when forced to appear on The Tonight Show to promote his faltering series and is mortified by his second billing to Zac Efron ("It's not Friends anymore," Jay Leno tells him).

"When he realizes the end of Pucks! is imminent, he feels sorry for himself, that it was not the best move," LeBlanc says. And it all has a humbling effect on "Matt," who — like the real one — followed Friends with its regrettable spinoff Joey. "As the guy who never takes responsibility for the consequences of his actions, that starts to weigh on him."

Is Morning (Mircea Monroe) back on "Pucks"?

JK: Oh, yeah, Morning is back, and she does some great work — Mircia Monroe does some of her best work this year. We meet her sister later on in the season. Her sister's name is Dawn. They're Dawn and Morning. As Sean said, her parents had a whole range of idea. And it is kind of frightening to think of Morning's sister and Matt on the same stage…

DC: Nothing good can come out of it.

An intriguing role

The star of Revolution have a very promising role in the show. As announced on a U.S. site, Tracy is playing Dawn, a family member of the sexy Morning Randolph. And when you know how Matt Leblanc (the character) loves novelty and fuck everything that moves, you can easily expect new and very funny situations and some rather fun misunderstandings.

* Zero mention of appearing in the show by Tracy. Only that 'London' tweet. Nothing from other cast members as well regarding Tracy as Dawn. Why?
