The 'The Breaking and Entering Rule' Rule (6 Dec. 2013) [S2E12]: Nudity Report
The episode starts with the Sam, Megan and Jenna walking through Millennium Park as Megan asks Sam if she's sure Ryan is the one. Sam says she is and Jenna tells her she has to tell him. Sam says she can do one better...
Next we see the three girls carrying a large sculpture that they made for Ryan out of various art projects down the street. Sam informs the girls that they're going to break in to Ryan's apartment and leave it for him, which they do. The bait is set, she tells them, "lets see what we catch".
We then see Sam several days later in her office. Every time her phone goes off she eagerly checks it but its just one of the girls texting her to see if Ryan's called her yet. She tells them he hasn't. Dean, sensing Sam is anxious to hear from someone, calls Sam from a restricted number. When she realizes its him, the two get into a little fight, only this time Dean seems more upset about it than usual.
Next we cut to Jason's office where we find Jason waiting for Rachel to come out of the stall in the women's bathroom. He confronts her about her unwillingness to pursue any form of a relationship. He tells her he thinks they have something good. He tells her to think about what she really wants and if she wants to give it a try, to let him know.
Later that night, Sam and Amy are having a quiet girls night in, eating take out at Sam's apartment. Over at Jason's apartment, Jason is vacuuming when suddenly Rachel walks in unannounced. She says she came to tell him she feels like the risks outweigh the rewards when it comes to love. Jason doesn't buy it. He calls bullshit. Rachel confesses she wants to give it a try. Jason swoops her up and takes her over to the giant ottoman by his couch. He removes all of her clothes and they begin to make love. At first he's on top, leading all the action, but when he tells her not to go too soft on him, she flips him and they continue with her on top. Good looks at their butts and her breasts.
Next we cut over to bootleg where Dean is moping over Jenna blaming him for Ben's cheating (as mentioned in the previous episode). Blair is pointing out all the girls in the bar, but Dean's not interested. Suddenly Penni rushes in to talk to Tyler about her ideas for the wedding. Not surprisingly, all of them are bizarre.
The next day, Sam is going with Amy to get the rest of her stuff from Carrie's apartment. Amy tells her she hasn't heard from Carrie in days so clearly she doesn't want her back. When they get inside, to Amy's surprise, Carrie is sitting there watching TV. Carrie tells Amy she's not at work because she's taking a mental health day. She's all broken up about Amy taking off on her. The two make up and Sam heads out.
We next see Sam walking down the street checking her messages to see if Ryan's written her yet. He hasn't, so she heads over to his house. We next see a short montage of Sam breaking into Ryan's apartment. The first two times she sees the sculpture in the same spot the three girls left it, so perhaps Ryan hasn't been home yet to see it. But on the final break in, Sam notices the sculpture has moved. Why hasn't he called her??
When Sam gets home she finds Megan waiting for her on the couch. Megan's upset she hasn't heard from the Florist in days. She wants to break into his phone to see if she can figure out what's going on. Sam helps her but they don't find any information, so Megan proposes breaking into the flower shop, which they do.
Afterwards at Bootleg, (now conspicuously decorated in flowers), the three girls seem miserable. Sam hasn't heard from Ryan, Megan can't figure out what's going on with the florist and Jenna thinks she's blown it with Dean (who's sulking in the corner). Sam encourages her to go over and talk with him, which she does. Jenna apologizes to him and after some goading, he accepts. Now that they're friends again, Jenna asks if he'd be willing to do her a favor. Dean's intrigued...
We next see the two breaking into Ben's office. Jenna sets up Ben's webcam to make sure its recording. She then lifts her dress and sits, bare assed, on his keyboard, wiggling around on it. Dean comes over and puts his hands all over her butt, squeezing it for the cameras. They then move to another part of the desk and pull her dress down on the top, where Dean begins to kiss and grab her breasts (all for show to the camera). They begin making love standing up, then move to Ben's chair, with Jenna on top where they continue.
The next morning we see Ben at his desk. He receives a message from Jenna which he opens up. We then see shots from the webcam from the night before, including a very close up of Jenna's butt as she's wiggling around on Ben's keyboard. Ben's disgusted.
Over at an outdoor cafe, we see Dean glowing from the night before. He texts Jenna asking to her if she'd like to hang out later, but she responds that she's looking for healthier relationships in her life at the moment. Dean is clearly hurt again.
Later that night we find Sam coming home to hear Megan crying again. She climbs through the window and sits with Megan on her bed, thinking Megan is sad about the florist. But she learns Megan's lost a childhood friend in a car accident. Sam comforts her in a very touching scene as the episode ends.

This was a good episode! I still want to see Sam snap out of her season-long funk, but the love triangle is providing a nice showcase for Rebecca's dramatic chops. Especially the look on her face when it dawned on her that she'd maybe lost both guys. Who knew late night Cinemax could so effectively tug at the heartstrings?
This one also had plenty of laughs. Some priceless Tyler/Penni stuff, plus an instant classic with Megan's "back door" misadventure. The uninhibited way Tessa threw herself into that scene made it even more memorable than it would have been otherwise!
I do wish we were seeing more of Nicole Rodenburg, who got that one great breakthrough episode and has seemingly been on the back burner ever since. Hoping she'll get a bump up to full-fledged series regular in season 3. Speaking of which, any word on the likelihood of the show being renewed? Or at least a hint as to when we might find out?
* Cinemax takes a long, long time to make a firm and final decision on renewals.
