Shocker: David Cronenberg's 'Maps To The Stars" Rated R For Violence, Sex, Nudity and Drugs
With Jane Campion named as the jury president for 67th Cannes Film Festival earlier this week, so begins the forward look to the events on the Croisette in May. While the lineup is still a long way off from begin announced, if we were betting men, we'd put a good wager on David Cronenberg's "Maps To The Stars". Now, there's an indication that a cut of the movie is finished.
In their weekly update of recently announced MPAA ratnigs, Rope Of Silicon reveal that "Maps To The Stars" has shockingly been given an R-rating for strong disturbing violence and sexual content, graphic nudity, language and some drug material." In a Cronenberg, movie? No way!
Rated R For strong disturbing violence and sexual content, graphic nudity, language and some drug material.
Starring John Cusack, Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska, Robert Pattinson, Olivia Williams and Sarah Gadon, the Bruce Wagner penned movie is vicious look at a twisted Hollywood dynasty, in what is said to be a satire/takedown of the industry. Here's the official synopsis:
The Weiss family is the archetypical Hollywood dynasty: father Sanford is an analyst and coach, who has made a fortune with his self-help manuals; mother Christina mostly looks after the career of their son Benjie, 13, a child star.
One of Sanford's clients, Havana, is an actress who dreams of shooting a remake of the movie that made her mother, Clarice, a star in the '60s. Clarice is dead now and visions of her come to haunt Havana at night. Adding to the toxic mix, Benjie has just come off a rehab program he joined when he was 9 and his sister, Agatha, has recently been released from a sanatorium where she was treated for criminal pyromania...
EOne will distribute in North America, but there are no dates for this one yet. But it's still early in 2014 and all of that will eventually shape up. Either way, you underage RPatz fans will have to find an adult to bring you or buy you a ticket.
Script Snippets (possibly revised prior to shoot):
* Entirely possible we're looking at male nudity in the 'graphic' department unless the script was revised by Cronenberg. With the likes of Mia Wasikowska, Sarah Gadon, Olivia Williams and Julianne Moore to choose from, I've to go with Julianne (breasts), Olivia (topless in bed but unlikely), Mia as described in above scene. Her first frontal nudity? It's an ensemble piece and Mia likely prefers to be the lead if she's going to show her mosquito bites. That leaves Sarah doing a sensational full-frontal for her mentor David? Her character 'appears' from time to time to haunt her daughter Havana. One scene with her soaking in the bathtub, wearing a sexy summer dress as Havana stands there in shock, watching her. Maybe David persuaded Sarah to go all the way albeit very briefly? Sarah did her first nude scenes in upcoming Enemy.
