Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead Sunday afternoon in his New York City apartment, a law-enforcement official said.
The New York Police Department is investigating, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine exact cause of death. The official said Mr. Hoffman, 46 years old, was found dead at his apartment at 35 Bethune St. in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan.
Mr. Hoffman won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 2005 film, "Capote."
Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has died, NY law enforcement confirms. He was 46. According to NYPD, Hoffman was found dead this morning in his Manhattan home of an apparent drug overdose. Police were called to the scene by a friend who found Hoffman dead in the bathroom of the apartment this morning around 11:30 AM. A law enforcement official told the Wall Street Journal that the actor was discovered in the bathroom of his fourth floor apartment with a needle in his arm. An autopsy will be performed and results could take a few weeks.
