EastEnders has been forced to change dramatic scenes at Janine Butcher’s murder trial – after a key actress involved in the plot suddenly announced she was off to Hollywood.
Jasmyn Banks, 23, who plays Alice Branning, was expected to appear with Charlie Brooks’ character Janine – who is accused of murdering psychopath Michael Moon – at court.
Although she had only been contracted to stay in Albert Square until the Christmas Eve episode, Jasmyn had been given the option of staying on.
But in a shock telephone call to producers, she announced she would no longer be available.
A source at the BBC soap confirmed: “Jasmyn’s decision not to return has thrown scriptwriters into a right old spin.

"While she wasn’t due to have any speaking roles in Janine’s trial scenes, she was meant to be filmed leaving prison and making appearances at court.
“It seems she has turned her back on having anything more to do with EastEnders though.”
But a soap spokesman said: “Alice’s role was a very minor part in the conclusion of this storyline so everything will go ahead as planned.
"We are not going to confirm the details as we don’t want to spoil it for the viewers.”
Meanwhile, when it was revealed that EastEnders was beaten by Coronation Street in the Christmas Day ratings, Charlie blasted: “There’s always such a hoo-ha about ratings, and it’s bulls**t, because each soap goes up and down.
“It seems she has turned her back on having anything more to do with EastEnders though.”

* Confident chick. And smart too. Pilot season commences soon. Betting she don't have any non-nudity stipulation/clause nonsense. It doesn't matter at the end. If you're bad at auditions....nonetheless, remember her name, guys. She seems like someone who will be up for anything and everything in order to succeed. Jasmyn just proved that by ditching the show. She needs to be careful though. US producers are quite discerning when it comes to giving newcomers a chance but they also take a good look at the actor past behavior and attitude in previous series/movies. Loyalty is a two-way street.
