On April 6, HBO will debut a new half-hour comedy show that takes on the high-tech world, titled “Silicon Valley.”

It’s a rainy Friday in winter, so let’s all pick our heads up from our smartphones, take a look deep within our souls and admit we are all completely ridonkulous and deserving of some quality mockery.

Thank goodness, the ribbing — not that gentle, it seems — will come at the hands of a master: Mike Judge, the man responsible for “Office Space,” “Beavis and Butthead” and “King of the Hill.” He created “Silicon Valley” with John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky.

HBO says the television show is “partially inspired by Judge’s own experiences as a Silicon Valley engineer in the late ’80s” and notes that “in the high-tech gold rush of modern Silicon Valley, the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success.”
Jaimie Trueblood/HBO Thomas Middleditch and Josh Brener star in HBO’s “Silicon Valley.”
Seems like nothing has changed, then!

The show, which will have an eight-episode season, is using a cast of young comic actors, many of whom have had great character roles in a plethora of movies and TV shows.

Here is the plot synopsis:
Richard (Thomas Middleditch) is an introverted computer programmer living in the Hacker Hostel startup incubator along with his best friend, Big Head (Josh Brener), pompous Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) and dry-witted Dinesh (Kumail Nanjiani). These social misfits live under the watch of Erlich (T.J. Miller), a self-satisfied dot-com millionaire who lets them stay in his house for free — as long as he gets a ten percent stake in their projects.

After a failed pitch to billionaire venture capitalist Peter Gregory (Christopher Evan Welch), Richard seems destined to remain at his job at the tech company Hooli, founded by the megalomaniacal Gavin Belson (Matt Ross). When Monica (Amanda Crew), Gregory’s head of operations, and Jared (Zach Woods), a Hooli executive, realize the value of the site’s search algorithm, a bidding war erupts between Belson and Gregory, with Richard caught in the middle.

To summarize: Sexless geeks, a fantastic algorithm, a stupid company name, a billionaire megalomaniac and only one woman to be found amidst a sea of dudes.

Is this a reality show?

Well, my reality, at least, which is why HBO tapped me for a real-life-meets-art cameo in a later episode, as a well-known, obnoxious tech reporter named Kara Swisher of Re/code. (Frankly, I was brilliant and am dusting off my shelf for my inevitable Emmy. I’d like to thank the little people, and I do mean little people.)
